The Dreaming – A Story of the Universe’s Awakening

The Dreaming

A Story of the Universe’s Awakening

In the beginning, there was no beginning.

There was only peace.

There were no stars burning in the darkness, no planets turning through space, no oceans moving beneath the pull of distant moons. There were no creatures searching for food, no voices calling across the wilderness, no footsteps upon the Earth.

There was no yesterday to remember and no tomorrow to anticipate.

There was only the Dreaming.

And within the Dreaming rested the Universe.

It drifted somewhere between thought and feeling, wrapped within a warmth so complete that there was nothing left to desire. It dreamed of images that seemed to belong to another time—memories inherited from something ancient that had existed before it.

For this Universe had not come from nothing.

It carried within itself the remnants of an ancestor: another existence, another formation, another great story that had already reached its end. Whatever that ancient source had learned had not been entirely lost. Its wisdom remained folded into the new Universe like a message hidden within a seed.

And from that inheritance, something new had formed.

Something more complex.

More beautiful.

More capable.

More aware.

The Universe did not yet know this, however.

It simply dreamed.

There was no separation between mind, body and spirit because there was no reason for separation to exist. Everything belonged to everything else. Nothing competed. Nothing struggled. Nothing feared its own ending.

The Universe was complete.

It rested as though floating upon an endless cloud—safe, warm and weightless.

This was the perfect balance of pure love.

And for an immeasurable time, it was enough.

The First Question

But eternity is a very long time to dream.

Eventually, the dreams began repeating themselves.

The same feelings returned.

The same images appeared.

The same memories moved through the sleeping consciousness of the Universe again and again.

Something changed.

At first, it was barely noticeable: a tiny disturbance within perfect stillness.

A question.

Then another.

Who am I?

The stillness trembled.

Where did I come from?

Another ripple.

What am I made of?

And finally:

Why am I here?

The Universe had discovered curiosity.

For the first time, perfection was no longer enough. It wanted to understand perfection.

It wondered whether something might exist beyond the boundaries of its dreams. Perhaps there was somewhere else to go. Something else to see. Something it had not yet experienced.

Curiosity became desire.

Desire became intention.

And intention became movement.

Slowly, the sleeping Universe began to awaken.

It opened its eyes.

And immediately wished that it hadn’t.

The Darkness

There was no familiar world waiting outside the Dreaming.

There was darkness.

Cold, immeasurable darkness.

The Universe searched for something recognizable, but there were no landmarks and no comforting voices. There was no direction because there was nothing against which direction could be measured.

For the first time, the Universe understood what it meant to feel separate.

It cried into the darkness.

Is anyone there?

There was no answer.

It called again.

Nothing.

The Universe became afraid.

Fear was unlike anything it had experienced within the Dreaming. Where love had felt expansive and warm, fear felt contracting and cold.

The Universe tried to return to sleep.

It closed its eyes and searched for the peaceful place from which it had come.

But it could not find it.

Too many thoughts had appeared.

What if I am alone?

What if I cannot go back?

What if something has gone wrong?

What if I was never supposed to wake up?

Thought followed thought until the silence became deafening.

Confusion became fear.

Fear became anger.

Anger became desperation.

And desperation became movement.

The Universe began to spin.

Slowly at first.

Then faster.

And faster.

Its centre could no longer hold the overwhelming forces moving within it. Everything that had once existed peacefully together became compressed into an unimaginable state of tension.

Consciousness questioned.

Energy surged.

Matter waited.

The Universe spun faster still.

Until it could contain itself no longer.

The Awakening

And then—

release.

The Giant Singularity that contained the Universe erupted.

Energy rushed outward.

Matter followed.

Space expanded.

Time began to unfold.

What had once been contained within a single state was scattered across an expanding cosmos.

The silence was broken.

Creation had begun.

Yet something extraordinary happened in that moment.

The shock of awakening was so immense that the Universe forgot.

It forgot the Dreaming.

It forgot its ancestor.

It forgot the warmth from which it had come.

It even forgot that everything spreading through the darkness had once belonged to a single body.

All that remained was an instinctive feeling that something was missing.

And so the Universe began searching for itself.

The First Foundations

It could not return to the world it remembered, so it did the only thing it could do.

It began again.

Everything it required was already present within its own expanding body.

The first foundations of creation emerged through forces and substances that would eventually give rise to stars, worlds and living systems. Within the symbolic language of the Twelve Numbers of Creation, these foundations can be imagined through four ancient qualities:

Air. Water. Earth. Fire.

They were not merely ingredients, but different expressions of the Universe’s nature.

Air carried movement, possibility and thought.

Water carried flow, memory and feeling.

Earth offered structure, stability and form.

Fire carried transformation, warmth and energy.

Within the philosophy of the Earth and Body Connection, Air and Water lean toward the receptive qualities of Consciousness—fluid, responsive and capable of carrying information—while Earth and Fire represent qualities of Energy—fuel, structure, heat and action.

Neither side could create alone.

Consciousness without energy could imagine but not act.

Energy without consciousness could move but would have no direction.

Together they shaped Matter.

And Matter gave the invisible Universe something extraordinary:

a body through which it could experience itself.

The Universe Learns to See

For ages, creation unfolded without eyes to witness it.

Stars ignited.

Galaxies gathered.

Worlds formed.

Elements combined.

Matter became increasingly complex.

And somewhere within that complexity, life appeared.

The Universe had created something it had never possessed during the Dreaming:

a way to experience itself from within.

But life was fragile.

If living bodies were going to survive, they needed a way of understanding their surroundings.

And so another part of the Twelve Numbers of Creation emerged symbolically through the Five Senses.

Sight asked:

What is around me?

Hearing asked:

What is approaching?

Smell asked:

What is carried upon the air?

Taste asked:

What can become part of me?

Touch asked:

Where do I end and the world begin?

Through countless living bodies, the Universe could now encounter itself.

It could see the colours of a sunset.

Hear thunder rolling across a valley.

Smell rain falling upon dry soil.

Taste fruit growing beneath the Sun.

Feel another living being resting beside it.

The Universe that had once awakened alone in darkness was no longer without companionship.

It had become the companion.

The observer and the observed.

The question and the one searching for the answer.

Every creature became another window through which existence could look back upon itself.

But awareness brought another challenge.

Life could experience beauty.

And because it could experience beauty, it could also experience loss.

The Universe needed to learn how to live.

And so another bridge began to form.

The Rainbow Bridge

The bridge appeared not across physical space, but through experience.

Its colours represented stages through which consciousness could develop as it learned to exist within Matter.

The first colour was Red: Survival.

To Have.

Life learned to protect the body. It sought food, water, shelter, rest, warmth and safety.

The Universe learned:

I exist.

Then came Orange: Creativity.

To Do.

Life explored. It played, built, reproduced, experimented and changed its environment.

The Universe learned:

I can create.

Then came Yellow: Identity.

To Show.

Individual beings began to distinguish themselves from others. Personality, will and self-expression emerged.

The Universe learned:

I am someone.

Then came Green: Relationships.

To Serve.

Life discovered cooperation, family, friendship, empathy and love. Survival no longer depended solely upon the strength of the individual but upon relationships between individuals.

The Universe learned:

I am not alone.

Then came Blue: Connectedness.

To Support.

The boundaries between self and world began to soften. Life could recognize that every action travelled outward, affecting families, communities, ecosystems and generations yet unborn.

The Universe learned:

I belong to something greater than myself.

Then came Indigo: Guidance.

To Teach.

Experience became wisdom.

Life began asking the same ancient questions that had once awakened the Universe:

Who am I?

Where did I come from?

What am I made of?

Why am I here?

Science looked outward.

Spirituality looked inward.

Philosophy stood between them and continued asking questions.

The Universe was beginning to remember.

And finally came Violet: Sacrifice.

To Release.

This was perhaps the most difficult lesson of all.

Everything created eventually had to be surrendered.

Stars exhausted their fuel.

Leaves fell from trees.

Bodies aged.

Civilisations changed.

Relationships ended.

Generations passed.

Nothing could remain in one form forever.

The Universe slowly discovered that letting go was not necessarily the opposite of creation.

It was part of creation.

The old had to release its form so that something new could emerge.

I release what no longer serves me.

And beyond Violet waited something that had been there from the very beginning.

White: Oneness.

The Remembering

Perhaps this is why human beings have spent so much of their history searching.

We search the stars.

We search atoms.

We search ancient texts.

We search mathematics.

We search religions.

We search nature.

We search one another.

And eventually, we search ourselves.

We may believe we are searching for different things, yet beneath those questions may lie the echo of the Universe’s first question:

Who am I?

Perhaps consciousness is not travelling toward somewhere entirely new.

Perhaps it is remembering something very old.

Every discovery adds another piece.

Every act of love repairs a small separation.

Every lesson becomes wisdom.

Every birth continues creation.

Every death releases form.

Every generation carries something forward that the generation before it could not complete.

The Universe continues crossing its Rainbow Bridge through us.

The Final Surrender

There may eventually come a time unimaginably distant from our own when the Universe reaches the final chapters of its story.

The stars will have told their stories.

Matter will have travelled through countless forms.

Energy will have moved through the great cycles of creation.

And consciousness—if consciousness truly belongs to the deeper architecture of existence—will have experienced more than the sleeping Universe could ever have imagined.

Perhaps then the ancient questions will finally become quiet.

The Universe will no longer need to ask:

Who am I?

Because it will have experienced itself through countless lives.

It will no longer ask:

What am I made of?

Because it will have explored itself from the smallest structures of matter to the greatest formations of the cosmos.

It will no longer ask:

Why am I here?

Because existence itself will have become the answer.

And with nothing left to prove, possess or become, the Universe will arrive at the final lesson of the Rainbow Bridge.

Sacrifice.

It will surrender.

Not in defeat, but in understanding.

The many will return to the One.

The boundaries that once separated consciousness, energy and matter will lose their meaning. Every fragment will belong once again to the greater whole from which it came.

The Universe will remember the Dreaming.

It will remember the warmth.

The stillness.

The completeness.

The love.

And perhaps, after travelling across unimaginable distances and experiencing existence through innumerable forms, it will finally understand what it could not understand at the beginning:

Oneness cannot truly know itself until it has experienced separation.

Peace cannot be recognised without disturbance.

Love cannot be fully understood without the possibility of fear.

Connection becomes meaningful because separation was once possible.

And wisdom is what remains after experience has transformed knowledge into understanding.

The Universe will close its eyes.

Its scattered story will become unified once more.

Consciousness will become still.

Energy will rest.

Matter will surrender its form.

The Rainbow Bridge will disappear because there will no longer be two shores to connect.

There will be no beginning.

There will be no ending.

There will only be Oneness.

Warm.

Peaceful.

Complete.

The Universe will dream again.

And somewhere within that perfect stillness, after an immeasurable amount of time, perhaps the faintest question will arise:

What if there is something more?
